Hello! For my project, I plan on researching how reading and writing fit into the Spanish classroom and how I can make it meaningful and engaging for my students.
In High School, I had a really great Spanish teacher who made learning fun and actually inspired me to become a Spanish teacher. In this class, we did skits, played games, listened to songs and watched movies, all of which helped learn the language.
As an educator, I hope I will be seen as a fun teacher, who still takes things seriously. I want to be well respected, but not seen as a total authoritative figure. Bringing fun into the classroom will hopefully engage the students and interest them more into the language. Because it's a foreign language course, it will be majority grammar and vocabulary, which can be a tad overwhelming. Skits, games, music and movies can definitely help make those overwhelming topics fun and easier to learn and remember.
Some resources I can use are:

Pinterest is a great place to grab ideas from! There are some stories and worksheets to chose from and some others ideas that can be searched further.

Fluent U is a blog that has information for new teachers. This entry specifically has some fun game ideas that I could use for vocabulary or even grammar structures.
YouTube
YouTube is also a great resource that I could use! I can show music videos, or just play songs for the students and print out the lyrics and white out certain words or phrases that the students need to listen for a fill in.

Teaching Literacy in Spanish by Kathy Escamilla, is an article published that has a lot of great ideas for teaching literacy in the classroom. With activity ideas and classroom organization, it seems like something that anyone could use!
I like that you are looking for other ways to incorporate writing into the Spanish classroom, like through skits! Your examples sound like fun ways to get kids involved. Your resources also look great, and I am excited to see where this goes!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing - I think you resources will give you some good beginnings. Great topic!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea you have, particularly the idea of including skits and games into your lessons. I don't know if it's true, but I once heard that a person isn't truly fluent in a language until humor begins to click. It seems to make sense, at least.
ReplyDeleteI agree that leaning a foreign language grammar and vocabulary will not be easy for most students, but your ideas will definitely help with the stress and learning of the material.
ReplyDeleteLearning a foreign language can be difficult for many students, so your positive and enthusiastic approach is awesome. I think it's important to keep the classroom fun and engaging, especially with a difficult subject!
